Laylatul Qadr is so valuable night that Quran devotes a special Surah al-qadr verse 3 to it “Lailatul qadri khairum min alfee shahr” which means The Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr night) is better than a thousand months. Can you imagine? One single night being worth more than 30,000 nights!

Now, the most trustworthy teachings tell us that this blessed night can fall on any of the last ten odd-numbered nights of Ramadan. But here’s the mystery: we don’t know exactly which night it is. And you know what? That’s because it’s in Allah’s divine plan to keep it hidden from us. Subhan Allah!

Prophet Muhammad Hadith (ﷺ)

Listen closely, my dear ones, to the words of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). He said, “Look for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.

 Sahih al-Bukhari 2017

Prophet Muhammad Hadith (ﷺ)

“Allah’s Messenger Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to exert more (in worship) on the last ten than on other nights.”

Sahih Muslim 1175

In the wisdom of Allah, the exact night of Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree, remains hidden from us. Even the Prophet Muhammad, (ﷺ), was not permitted to disclose its precise time.

Once, he intended to inform his companions, but on the way, he encountered two men arguing. By Allah’s will, he forgot and then remembered the information. However, he was instructed not to reveal it. He once expressed, “If I were permitted, I would have told you.”

Allah, in His infinite wisdom, conceals this night from us for various reasons. Perhaps He wants us to strive hard in worship in the last ten days of Ramadan. He does not want us to get lazy and focus only on one night.

The Prophet Muhammad, (ﷺ), said, “If people had not abandoned the required prayers. I would have told you its date. They did so, except for that one night.”

The sincere believer is troubled by their sins and moments of neglect. They eagerly await Ramadan, hoping for forgiveness (Tasbeeh for forgiveness) from Allah.

They know that the Prophet promised forgiveness. It’s for those who work hard during the last ten days. To gain this forgiveness (Dua for forgiveness), one must heed the Prophet’s advice to seek Laylatul Qadr. They must pursue and search for it diligently.

Furthermore, Allah and His Prophet have provided signs indicating its occurrence.

The Virtues of Laylatul Qadr

  • Worshipping on Laylat al-Qadr leads to the forgiveness of past sins.
  • It is worth a thousand months. Worship on Laylat al-Qadr is more valuable than worship over a thousand months.

  • It is peaceful and serene. The atmosphere on Laylat al-Qadr is with angels descending and spreading tranquility.

  • Laylat al-Qadr is a special chance for du’a. It lets believers make sincere Dua and get closer to Allah.
  • Angels descend. On this night, they come to earth. They spread blessings and goodness among believers.
  • Allah tells certain angels about what will happen in the upcoming year. He tells them to write it down from Al-Lawh Al-Mahfoodh. It is a special tablet where everything is kept safe.
  • Ibn Rajab said, “Hey, you who has let the years slip away. Nothing can fix those lost years except for the night of Al-Qadr. Its importance is like having a whole lifetime.”
  • Islamic scholars say, if someone spends this one special night praying and being good, they’ll get rewards. It will be as if they’ve been doing it for more than 1000 months. Cool, right?

Preparation for the Last 10 days of Ramadan

The Night of Power is better for you than living for one thousand months. Even if you spent that time being sincere. You were dedicated and made sacrifices with good intentions and deeds. It’s like having something amazing happen in just one night. This is compared to a whole lifetime of being good.
